During an interview for a parish position some years ago, I was asked to "label" my theological position. I declined. No-one can be summed up in a single word, and giving people such a word just encourages them to put you in a box of their own understanding. As in "You say you're evangelical/liberal/neo-orthodox/whatever... (take your pick). I know what makes you tick."

Since then, I have found a term which for me (almost) adequately describes my position. I am content to be known as a person of the Radical Centre. That is where I find Jesus, both in his earthly ministry, and in the ministry of the church of today. Much of the church today seems obsessed with staking out positions at the poles, and so few are apparently trying to hear across the theological divide.

So, it was with great joy that I read the editorial in the Dec. 13 issue of The Christian Century. Please read it here.
