Earlier this week, I was walking around with a bare head, and the streets were wet. Today we're back in the deep freeze, with temp's around -20C, and winds of 40+ kph. The windchill is around -40C. That's COLD! In Manitoba, they refer to this kind of weather as an "Alberta Clipper." Having spent most of my life in Alberta, I might take offense to this designation—but what's the point? It doesn't mean there's any blame attached, does it?

Nonetheless, people love to attach blame, finding out why things go wrong. The "blame game" affects all of human society, even the church! And that to me is a scandal: the body that is called to celebrate and live out God's forgiveness of sins is so often unable to forgive its own members. God is giving us opportunity to learn, I guess...

So today I recall this definition of forgiveness, attributed to Diane Cirincione:

FORGIVENESS is giving up all hope for a better past.
