I missed doing a Lent reflection yesterday (Wednesday of Lent 1). It was quite a day, beginning with news of an emergency, and ending on an incredible musical high.

We hold noon-hour services every Wednesday in Lent, with guest speakers for five of the seven. I speak at the first, on Ash Wednesday, and the Bishop is the speaker for the Wednesday in Holy Week. I was just settling in to my desk yesterday morning, when yesterday's guest phoned to cancel. He and his family raise Clydesdale horses, and there was a crisis involving one of them. Big work to look after a very valuable horse! Could I "sub in." Well, OK, but there went the morning, with an unanticipated homily to prepare.

In the afternoon, the phone didn't stop ringing, and I had to get out to do some special errands, and I had to visit the hospital.

Evening came, and the big event. We have recently acquired a rebuilt Baldwin concert grand piano, and last night was the inaugural concert, featuring a travelling virtuoso. He played two of Robert Schumann's piano Sonatas, No.'s 1 & 3 to a good house -- especially good considering the heavy snowfall we had yesterday. The concert was a terrific success -- great credit to the guest artist, and perhaps even more to the piano technician who had worked since last June to rescue this piano.

All in all, quite a day!
